The Weidner Philharmonic at University of Wisconsin–Green Bay makes its home in the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, and is committed to professional presentations of engaging and creative musical programming. This Philharmonic showcases the talents of UW-Green Bay music faculty, the accomplished orchestral musicians who live and work in our region, and the outstanding acoustics of Cofrin Family Hall.

An accomplished composer, horn player, and music educator. Michelle McQuade Dewhirst is the principal horn player in the Weidner Philharmonic. Her original compositions have been performed by ensembles across the country. Out of Dark Waters, This – a special commission for the Weidner Philharmonic had its world premiere performance at the Women’s Work concert in 2022. As Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, she teaches courses in music theory, music history, composition, horn, and popular music.
Michael alexander,
lead conductor
In addition to being the lead conductor for the Weidner Philharmonic, Michael Alexander is the Seventh Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Since becoming Chancellor in 2020, he has overseen enrollment growth of 17.4% and initiated six strategic priorities to support the future of the University. Prior to coming to Green Bay in 2019, Dr. Alexander served as Director of Music at at the University of Northern Colorado since 2015.
